Permission to Be & Why It's Important

Yesterday I was at a networking event, just a cozy meet & greet in a staged home currently on the market (gotta love having realtor connections). Intimate and classy, complete with flutes of rose sparkling wine and skewers of cheese, meat and tomatoes. I set the scene to try and make my "oof" make sense. So there I was talking to another business owner about FFTs (check out my blog post about them) and I LEGIT looked around this impeccable home as I said, "Oh, am I allowed to F words here?"

Classic Jennifer Lawrence, perfect for this situation.

And...I know. I know! I can hear your groans from here. I totally panicked! I am still unmasking my autism and learning to trust myself in social situations. I processed quickly that I didn't need permission from anyone, and if that owner was gonna judge me for using it in an appropriate way, then that's on them. And yes, it was an appropriate use of the F word - I mean HELLO Brené Brown named them Fucking First Times so the name must be said, in full, no questions asked. It's gospel now.

But this exact situation is WHY we started Permission Slip Granted. As female presenting people, we often are waiting for permission for anything and everything from

  • ...using a title that has the F word in it

  • ...to going after that promotion

  • ...to being less than perfect

  • ...to taking up space

  • ...to being authentic and messy

  • and so much more!

Kristin, Hilary, Sydney and I want to empower female presenting people, get them to trust themselves and stop waiting for permission. We want to create a space for more authentic stories to be told, more genuine support to be offered and encourage more people to remove shame from their lived experience.

Ok, so why is this important??? Imagine what your life will look like if you stop spending your precious finite energy waiting until someone gives you permission.

You start to get after life on YOUR terms, seeking fulfillment rather than wasting your life worrying and caring about what other people might think about you, your choices and your life.

So check out this episode to hear more about what each of us co-creators envision for the space. Enjoy, and let me know your key takeaway!
